Yes, a modern booking portal is built to work in a phone browser, and for most travel businesses that is where the majority of visitors now arrive. The search box, the results, the passenger details form and the payment page all reflow to fit a small screen, so a customer never has to pinch and zoom to finish a booking.

It is worth knowing that a phone browser is not the same as a mobile app. The browser version needs no download and always shows the latest version of your site, which makes it the easier place to start. An app can do a few things the browser cannot, such as sending a notification to the phone, but it also has to be installed and kept updated. Many agencies run the browser site first and add an app later once they see the traffic justify it.

The part that is worth testing carefully is payment. When a customer is sent to the bank page for a card check, the phone may open that step in a new window or switch to a banking app, and coming back cleanly afterwards depends on how your payment gateway handles it rather than on the booking site itself. Some gateways manage this smoothly on every handset, some do not.

Before you push traffic to your site, open it on a couple of real phones, an older one included, and take a test booking right through to the confirmation screen so you can see exactly what your customer sees.
